This guide is for replacing the power button of the iPhone 4S.
Symptoms : broken power button, cracked or defective
Some advice before you start
Recommended repair kit
Step 1
Before replacing the power button of your iPhone 4S, you have to securely turn it off.
Maintain the power button on the top for a few seconds.
Then slide to the right to "power off" button in red.
Step 2
Use a SIM card eject tool to remove the tray.
Step 3
Remove the two screws circled in red located on both sides of the dock connector of your iPhone 4S.
Step 4
Push the rear panel to the top.
It should move about 2mm.
Then lift it away as shown on the third picture.
Step 5
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the two screws circled in red.
Those screws maintain the battery cable to the battery connector .
Step 6
Use a pair of tweezers to remove the metallic piece next to the phone's battery connector.
Step 7
Use the nylon spudger to disconnect the logicboard's battery connector.
Attention : Gently pry the battery from the side as shown on the picture. Do not force it or it could damage the connector.
Step 8
With a nylon spudger, gently pry to lift the left side of the battery.
Step 9
Then grab the clear plastic and slowly pull to take the battery off its socket.
Be gentle when removing the battery. Apple uses quite some glue on their devices which prevents from removing it with this technique.
Step 10
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the two screws circled in red.
Those screws hold the dock connector bracket.
Step 11
Use the tweezers to grab and remove the dock connector's cover.
Step 12
With the nylon spudger, unclip the dock connector cable.
Step 13
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the four screws circled in red.
Those screws hold the dock connector bracket.
Step 14
Still using the tweezers, grab the metal braket.
Step 15
Use the nylon spudger to disconnect the back camera cable.
Step 16
Grab the camera using the pair of tweezers.
Step 17
Use the nylon spudger to disconnect the jack/volume button/vibrate switch cable.
Step 18
Still with the nylon spudger, unclip the power button/light and proximity sensor cable.
Step 19
With the spudger, disconnect the front camera.
Step 20
Use the nylon spudger and unlock the touch and LCD screen cable.
Step 21
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the screw circled in red.
This screw hold the grounding clip of the phone.
Step 22
Use a pair of tweezers to remove the grounding clip.
Step 23
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the rivet screw at the top right.
Then use a cruciform screwdriver to remove the screw circled in red on the left.
Step 24
Still with a cruciform screwdriver, remove the screw circled in red.
This screw hold the logic board to the frame.
Step 25
With the nylon spudger, gently disconnect the GSM antenna connector from the logic board.
Step 26
With a flat screwdriver, remove the rivet screw circled in red.
This screw holds the logic board to the frame.
Step 27
Use the nylon spudger to disconnect the WiFi/Bluetooth antenna.
Step 28
Remove the screw circled in red on the picture.
This screw holds the logic board to the frame.
Step 29
Use a nylon spudger to gently lift the logic board and remove it.
Step 30
Use a pair of tweezers to remove the gold grounding clip.
Important notice : this metalic golden part is under the logic board and not above.
Step 31
With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the two screws circled in red.
Step 32
Gently remove the power button with the nylon spudger.
Step 33
Use a nylon spudger, push the power button outside its bracket and with a pair of tweezers remove it.
Step 34
The power button of the iPhone 4S is now disassembled.
You can replace it by a new one.
